On this blog we will primarily share information of value to people in the lending industry.
This particular post, however, is an exception. Because we’re launching our new website, it seems appropriate to introduce – or reintroduce – ourselves.
I started this company back in 1994, which was far from the ideal time to do so, but I didn’t have much choice. After successful stints turning around appraisal departments at various banks and savings and loans, I was out of a job when my employer was bought by Bank of New York.
It was not long after starting the company that I got a call from a lender client who wanted me to do for his bank what I had done for previous employers. The catch was that he wanted me to do it on a contract basis.
I had not thought of building a business around the outsourcing concept, but the arrangement made sense. I could handle all aspects of the appraisal process for them, ensuring they were fully compliant, and without the institution having to consider staffing cost or scalability. Not only that, they could pass the cost along to the customers as part of the appraisal fee.
It soon became apparent that other lenders in our area felt the same way. Since taking on that first client, we have added many more lending institutions to our client list, and have done it almost exclusively by word of mouth.
To handle that growth, we now have twenty-one appraisers, the majority of whom have earned the MAI designation, and three office staff to provide support to our clients.
We began as a New Jersey firm, but now have the capacity to work with lenders anywhere in the country.
From the beginning, our focus has been combining expertise, service, and independence. By having a review team comprised of the most qualified appraisers and a dedicated administrative staff, we provide excellent service and deliver timely information to our clients. The result is an efficient, transparent, and independent appraisal process that keeps our clients – and their regulators – happy.
